About Group Therapy

Group Therapy is an opportunity to connect and heal with others who share similar life experiences and challenges. Group therapy is led by at least one professional clinician or counselor who facilitates the therapeutic experience. Being in a group setting with both peers and professionals can provide more perspective and support. Additionally, participating in group therapy can be a more affordable option for those seeking mental health services. At South Collective Counseling, we provide group members who have out-of-network benefits the documentation needed to submit to their insurance for reimbursement. For more information on out-of-network benefits—click here to learn more.

Below is a list of South Collective Counseling’s groups available for enrollment. Check back for additional groups and seminars that may become available. If you have a suggestion for a group feel free to contact us with your topic of interest!

NEWEST GROUP:

Adult Adoptee Support Group

South Collective Counseling, in collaboration with A Fostered Love, is offering adoption support groups for adult adoptees i New Jersey (18+) — creating a safe space for adoptees to share their experience regardless of having an open/closed adoption, infant adoption, transracial adoption or foster care adoption. The groups will be led by Mia Arrington, LSW who was adopted through foster care herself. Mia is an experienced trauma-focused and adoption-focused therapist.

Adult Adoptee group sessions will focus on a variety of topics, including:

  • Safety in exploring and sharing your story

  • Exploring the role of boundaries, first family and adoptive families

  • Permission to acknowledge grief and loss

  • Understanding disenfranchised grief, and the role it has in adoption

  • Navigating the social stigmas surrounding adoption

  • Both/And feelings, exploring the weight of holding two extremes

  • Acknowledging and coping with cultural factors and differences

  • Exploring thoughts about adoption and its portrayal in media, religious institutions and more…

The cost of each group session is $30.

If you would like to learn more and/or are interested in attending, email Mia at mia@southcollectivecounseling.com or direct message her on A Fostered Love on Instagram to register.

Body Positivity: Learning to Embrace All of You

A Women’s group focused on Body Positivity—inspired by Brene Brown’s book: The Gifts of Imperfection. This group is focused on improving self esteem and body image. We recommend purchasing a copy of the book to have as a resource throughout the group. You can find it on Amazon here.

Body Positivity: Learning to Embrace All of You can be offered on-site or on Zoom. Our mission is to help adults 18+ who identify as female break shame and learn self-love. In order for the group experience to be comfortable and healing for everyone we recommend no more than 10-12 participants.

If you or someone you care about would benefit from this group—please contact us to reserve your spot!
